I am considering changing the status of my LLC to a non profit?

my business is comprised of a couple of parts. i have an online store ( www.shopsbyiceisonline.com ) which will be used mostly as a way to fund my other-more important side ( www.iceislimited.org ). this business will be used to help provide housing, employment opportunities, and training for (the adults) homeless families living on the street. although i am currnetly in school myself preparing for a career in medicine (laboratory) i would like a small salary perhaps no more than 18,000 per year in order to pay for the time i actually put in to this endeavor. is that possible?
